​Potassium helps regulate salt in the blood. This is good news for you if you are having a difficult time with curbing salt and sodium in your diet. The best part is that you can get more than enough potassium by consuming a single banana with your breakfast every morning. If you are allergic to bananas or you simply cannot stand the taste of a moderately ripe banana, then you can buy potassium supplements in any pharmacy or natural health foods store. 


​Magnesium controls the flow of blood by relaxing blood vessel walls. Blood can flow more freely and not be so compressed or pressured. When the blood flows more freely through blood vessels, your systolic and diastolic pressure readings (the top and bottom numbers in your blood pressure reading) fall. Dark chocolate, avocados, nuts, salmon, tofu, and (surprise!) bananas are all magnesium-rich. You just have to avoid added salt in all of these foods, and your blood pressure will begin to drop. If you are lactose-intolerant or you cannot stomach the taste, then find a bottle of D3 supplements on the store shelf and begin taking a daily dose of it. If you cannot find D3 separate from other D vitamins (D1 and D2), that is okay. Your body needs all of the D vitamins it can get anyway, especially if you live in Alaska or the colder northern states of the country. (Not enough people get enough of D vitamins in winter because of the lack of exposure to sunlight during this time of the year.)
